Posted: 25 Aug 2010 heres a pic i took in july of a common frog i spotted in the garden and managed a passable pic of. its sat on a fringed water lily (nymphoides peltata)leaf. you can also see the tiny blue flowers of brooklime (veronica beccabunga). both natives. Diversity. |

Posted: 25 Aug 2010 Ben are the flowers brooklime? They look a bit like water forget-me-not. I got rid of my brooklime as it completely covered the pond and the dreaded duckweed sneaked in underneath it and I've never been able to get rid of it since. Suz |

Posted: 25 Aug 2010 hi, theyve all gone over now but ive not noticed any WFMN. it has less rounded leaves than BL. those of water speedwell are longer too- another (closely related to BL) aquatic with a blue floral "spike". my pic shows a metamorph frog (1cm or so). so the blooms and leaves in the pic might appear bigger. yes i battle against the brooklime (which is very creeping), canadian pondweed (which explodes) and the duckweed (which wont stop bluddy dividing!) too but at least the FWL doesnt take over here. i remove it much less frequently. curiously tho, in america its regarded as invasive (yes that buzzword again). BL builds up a large root mass. dont blame you for wanting rid of it. i dont let it take hold and im gradually phasing out (if i can) the CP to let the hornwort flourish. no chance of getting shot of the devil duckweed though! bah! cheers, ben Diversity. |
